Clean Cooking: Insights from two new AFD and FID Experiments

Published on

Couv QDD 85 EN

At the crossroads of environmental, health and social issues, universal access to clean and efficient cooking (CEC) is crucial. While international funding is being mobilized to support this transition, there is still a lack of field research that would help steer it towards cost-effective solutions. Against this backdrop, AFD and FID have supported two experimental impact assessments in Burkina Faso and the Democratic Republic of Congo. These have enabled us to gain a better understanding of the issues surrounding CEC and to identify certain levers to encourage its adoption. While subsidies and financial support appear to be effective, their use over time also depends on the implementation of awareness-raising and training initiatives. Nevertheless, further research and experimentation are needed to refine large-scale strategies.
