AFD Group finances and accelerates transitions toward a fairer, safer, and more resilient world, working alongside its partners to support people everywhere. Active in more than 160 countries and in Overseas Territories, it tailors its operations to local realities, actively supporting grassroots initiatives.
With more than 4,000 projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), AFD Group places particular emphasis on evaluating the impact of the projects it finances, and consistently addresses three cross-cutting priorities: protecting the planet, reducing multidimensional and gender inequalities, and promoting civic participation, democracy, and the protection of human rights.

The project cycle
Through five key stages – identification, appraisal, contracting, implementation, and completion – AFD supports its partners to ensure the success of the projects it finances. This support is grounded in a shared strategic vision, strong local ownership, and ongoing dialogue between AFD and project beneficiaries. The goal: to ensure effective use of funding, strengthen local capacities, and maximize economic, social, and environmental impacts.
