Atlantic Ocean : our regional flagship projects
Published on

In a region marked by collective challenges, Agence Française de Développement (AFD) is committed to fostering regional integration among overseas territories and promoting collective responses. Through its Atlantic Ocean regional department, it operates in 16 territories: six
French overseas territories – Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, Saint Barthélemy, Martinique, French Guiana, and Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon – and three non-French countries – Haiti, Dominican Republic, and Suriname – from local agencies/offices, and seven other countries from its
Regional Directorate in Martinique.
This region, known for its exceptional biodiversity, is also highly exposed to the effects of climate change. It faces significant economic and social inequalities, along with health and environmental vulnerabilities. AFD supports a regional development approach originating in the French overseas territories to encourage exchanges among neighboring countries, promote knowledge sharing and strengthen cooperation.
