AFD and gender equality in South Asia

Agence Française de Développement is committed to gender mainstreaming in all operations, recognizing that sustainable development cannot be achieved without gender equality. Financing projects that promote women empowerment, leadership and the effective exercise of women'srights is at the very core of AFD commitments,  aligned with France’s feminist foreign policy.

75% of all AFD operations will include gender equality as a main or significant objective by 2025. To this end, the AFD Group adopted a social strategy in 2021 aiming to reduce all forms of inequality, while strengthening social inclusion.

In South Asia, AFD backs initiatives that contribute to women’s economic empowerment, increases their access to basic services, improve their security by tackling violence against women and promote their participation in governance.
