Marie-Noëlle WOILLEZ

Marie-Noëlle Woillez holds a Ph.D. in Climate Modeling and conducts research on the impacts of climate change in AFD’s countries of operation.

Increasing intensity of heatwaves, rising sea levels, growing number of forest fires: Marie-Noëlle Woillez works on the effects of climate change on AFD’s partner countries. This work is a continuation of her training and the beginnings of her career path.

A climate and biosphere enthusiast, Marie-Noëlle Woillez wrote her Ph.D. thesis on Climate Modeling at the Laboratory for Sciences of Climate and Environment (LSCE, Saclay), in collaboration with the Laboratory of Glaciology and Environmental Geophysics (LGGE, Grenoble).

Her work mainly focused on the interactions between the climate and vegetation during the last ice age. She subsequently studied the impact of climate variations on vegetation and fires in South Africa in the period of the first homo sapiens, during post-doctoral studies at the Oceanic and Continental Environments and Paleoenvironments Laboratory (EPOC, Bordeaux). After a few years as an engineer at the French Petroleum Institute, she joined AFD in 2018.
