The Kiwa Initiative aims to strengthen the climate change resilience of Pacific Island ecosystems, communities and economies through Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). Launched by AFD in 2020, the initiative is the product of a unique commitment driven by France and the European Union, with Canada, Australia and New Zealand also on board. The call for ideas for regional projects is now open until September 15th 2021.

With a €35M budget, the Kiwa Initiative aims to provide easier access to climate change adaptation funding for local and national governments, as well as for civil society and regional organizations in Pacific Island Countries and territories, including the three French overseas territories.
