The French Development Agency (AFD) and UNHabitat held a working session on the sidelines of the second United Nations Habitat Assembly, which opened in Nairobi, Kenya. It aimed to foster exchange between countries, championing inclusive and sustainable public policies and supporting the “Adequate Housing for All” resolution, which had been tabled by Kenya and France and co-sponsored by several other states.
The French Development Agency and UN-Habitat strongly believe that adequate housing promotes health, dignity, safety, and connection to essential services and
employment opportunities beyond mere physical structures. It is a place where individuals and households can thrive and contribute to their communities.
During the session, UN-Habitat and AFD announced their strengthened collaboration to support the implementation of affordable housing policies and advocate for better access to sustainable housing as a central aspect of socio-economic development. The signed memorandum of understanding between the two parties builds upon their existing cooperation. It outlines a ten-year partnership that will operate on multiple levels to achieve the shared goals.
