CIRAD, AFD and its Expertise France and Proparco subsidiaries strenghen their partnership to promote sustainable agriculture in developing countries

The Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (CIRAD), the Agence française de développement (AFD) and its subsidiary Expertise France, are taking a new step forward in their international cooperation policy by signing an ambitious framework agreement integrating for the first time AFD's subsidiary dedicated to the private sector: Proparco.
A multi-dimensional framework agreement to meet global challenges
Launched 5 years ago, this strategic partnership has been renewed for a further four years by means of an ambitious framework agreement built around four key areas: strengthening strategic dialogue, supporting international initiatives, developing shared intellectual production and increasing impact on public policy.
The strategic priorities aim to :
- Accelerating agro-ecological transitions
- Intensifying integrated approaches to health
- Preserving biodiversity
- Strengthening food sovereignty
The partners intend to jointly support research programs, deploy experts and accompany innovative initiatives in developing countries. This quadripartite framework agreement illustrates the shared commitment of the four institutions to sustainable and innovative agricultural development in developing countries, at a time when the challenge of feeding 10 billion people by 2050 will require us to rethink our agricultural and consumption models.
With an investment of 56 million euros, 120 projects and contracts have already been carried out, half of which focus on Africa, the priority region of their joint strategy. Emblematic programs such as PREACTS in the field of the One Health coalition, ASSET on agroecology in Southeast Asia, Terramaz for the preservation of the Amazon rainforest, or the Geographical Indications Facility, which helps to better promote the quality of local products in developing countries, illustrate the ability of CIRAD, AFD and their subsidiaries to combine scientific expertise and technical support. |
Expanded and strengthened collaboration
The renewal of our collaboration with Expertise France and the integration of Proparco into this collaborative dynamic mark a decisive step forward. It enables us to diversify our interactions, particularly with the private sector, and to strengthen our capacity to intervene in complementary fields, from technical assistance to the structuring of economic sectors. This renewal reflects our shared determination to combine science, expertise and cooperation in the service of sustainable, mutually supportive development. A commitment that meets the complex challenges of today, while anticipating those of tomorrow.
By pooling their skills, CIRAD, AFD, Expertise France and PROPARCO aim to meet today's agricultural challenges: food security, adapting to climate change, preserving ecosystems and regional economic development.
