As part of International Migrants Day 2021, the Musée national de l'histoire de l'immigration (National Museum of Immigration History) with its partners, is organizing a program from December 13 to 18 on the theme of "Migration and perceptions: how can we support change?” AFD will take part in the roundtable "How to renew the portrayal of migration in the media" on December 18 from 2 to 4 pm.
International Migrants Day is held every year on December 18: its objective is to dispel prejudices and raise awareness about the economic, cultural, and social contribution of migration for countries of origin and destination.
In a political context marked by the polarization of debates around the issue of foreigners, it is essential to examine the media's treatment of migration and the history of immigration in France and around the world: what are the constraints encountered by journalists and editorial departments on the subject of migration?
What support can be given to media outlets and journalists for a more informed media coverage? How do other forms of communication contribute to changing the alarming and sensationalist portrayal of migration in the media?
The roundtable discussion will be moderated by Nathalie Funès, journalist at the French daily, L'Obs and head of its World Affairs section.
From 2 to 6pm in the Forum and the media library of the Palais de la Porte-Dorée, visitors will also be able to learn about the commitment and projects of international solidarity associations working on migration and development issues.
