How do intersecting vulnerabilities affect the quality of youth inclusion in labour market in Niger and their ability to move out of and remain out of poverty? How do different forms of livelihoods, education, training or migration affect youth inclusion? How do these models vary by gender, generation and area of residence?
This dissemination event identifies factors which challenge and those which enable involvement in various livelihoods among young women and men in Niger through the analysis of different poverty trajectories in Niamey, Tahoua and Zinder regions. The paper identifies factors that hinder and promote engagement in various livelihoods among young women and men in Niger through the analysis of different poverty trajectories.
To answer these questions posed by this theme, the article conducts a gender-streamlined analysis of different poverty trajectories of livelihoods and how these are affected by training, education and migration. The article applies a mixed methods approach to inspect various poverty trajectories, identifying how young people in Niger experience chronic poverty pathways, how some realise sustained poverty escapes, or transitionary escapes or impoverishment. Each trajectory considers how multiple qualitative drivers of escape and descent – usually in combination – affect youth inclusion in labour markets.

June 21 from 10 to 12 am (CET) in French-Hausa. The event will be facilitated by the LASDEL research team with presentations by Aïssa Diarra (Socio-anthropologist LASDEL) and Tahirou Ali Bako (researcher LASDEL).
