At the end of the "Planet" cycle of the three COPs, AFD wishes to reiterate the importance of supporting farmers' organizations (FOs) to strengthen food sovereignty, create jobs and added value in rural areas, contribute to the adaptation of agriculture to climate change, preserve biodiversity and fight against desertification and land degradation.
Family farms and their organisations are at the heart of the crucial transition in agricultural and food systems.
This event will give the floor to FO representatives and their partners to illustrate the means for action. After a reminder of the main issues their members are facing, feedbacks will illustrate the technical and economic services offered by FOs to ensure food security, improve farm incomes and develop rural areas.
Bringing together committed producers, FOs help to facilitate dialogue with other stakeholders in the agricultural and food value chains to ensure a balanced added value sharing for the benefit of their members. They also provide services to their members and ensure that they are represented in public processes regarding policies agricultural, food, environmental and trade policies.
How can this role be supported in an effective and sustainable way? What are the barriers and difficulties faced by FOs?
What are the operational modalities and insights to strengthen the structure of FOs and their service offering; their financial strategy and their capacity for dialogue and influence with their peers, operators, public authorities, etc.?
